Spotify, without a doubt, is one of the best music streaming platforms available today. However, before you can stream a particular song on Spotify, you must have already signed up for an account. This brings about the question: How do I sign up for Spotify?
Presently, Spotify has 551 million users and 220 million premium subscribers across 184 regions, which means it is indeed a household name in the music industry. It has over 50 million songs ranging from Rap, Country, classical, and other music genres. Also, Spotify offers you digitally copyright-restricted recorded music and podcasts.
In the meantime, Spotify offers two different types of accounts: free and premium. The free account is the default account that Spotify offers on its sign-up page. To use Spotify Premium, you must already have a free account. With a premium account, you can unlock Spotify’s bells and whistles.
Spotify Sign Up
There are four ways to sign up for an account on Spotify. You can sign up with Facebook, Google, a phone number, or an email address. To sign up on Spotify, you either use the web player, mobile app, or desktop software. To do that is very simple. Follow these procedures below:
With Facebook
- Visit the Spotify sign-up page on your device browser.
- Select ”Sign up with Facebook”.
- Facebook will then ask to permit Spotify to use your Facebook name and profile picture.
- If you wish to continue, click on ”Continue as [your name]”.
- Now enter your email address and profile name.
- Fill in your date of birth in the field provided.
- Select your gender.
- Verify your humanity.
- Then click on the ”Sign up button”.
In a twinkle of an eye, you’ll be taken to the Spotify homepage with your account already logged in.
With Google
- On the Spotify sign-up page, select ‘’Sign up with Google.”
- If you have more than one Google account signed in on your device, select the one you’d like to use.
- On the next page, Spotify will ask you to enter some details to set up your account.
- Enter the name you’d like to use and your date of birth.
- Select your gender.
- Verify your humanity.
- Lastly, click on the ‘’Sign up’’ button.
Voila! You now have a Spotify account.
With an Email Address
- Visit open.spotify.com.
- Select ‘’sign up’’.
- This takes you to the sign-up page.
- By default, Spotify’s sign-up page is set to an email address. This means that when you visit Spotify’s sign-up page to create a new account, the primary or default method of registering for an account is by providing your email address.
- Now, enter your email address.
- Create a password and a name you’d like to use for your account.
- Enter your birth details.
- Select your gender.
- Then tap the ‘’sign up’’ button.
However, unlike Facebook and Google Sign Up, which automatically log you into your account after clicking on the ‘’Sign Up button, signing up with an email address does not log you into your account.
So, now that you’re on the Spotify homepage, you have to sign into your account to be able to listen to songs. So, click on ‘’Login’’ at the top of the homepage.
On the login page, enter the email address and password you used to sign up. Having done that, click on the green ‘’log in’’ button to access your account.
With Phone Number
- Visit the Spotify sign-up page.
- Under the ”What’s your email? field, you will see a text that reads ”Use your phone number instead”. Click on it.
- On the next page, you will see an empty field that requests your phone number.
- Input your phone number in that field and click ‘’Next’’.
- To that effect, Spotify will send a 6-digit code to the number.
- Check your inbox, enter the code into the field provided, and click ‘’Next.”
- On the next page, enter the name you want to use and your birthday details.
- Choose your gender.
- Complete the reCAPTCHA and tap the ‘’Sign up’’ button.
You should now be on the Spotify homepage with your account signed in. From there, you can enjoy unlimited music streams.
Meanwhile, one downside of signing up with a phone number is that you will always need a verification code to access your account whenever you’re logged out. This is because you didn’t set up a password.
Why Can’t I Sign Up for Spotify?
Even though Spotify is used by millions of people across the globe, you’ll be surprised to know that there are some countries where you can’t access it. Presently, Spotify isn’t available in Ethiopia, Sudan, China, Libya, Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Venezuela, Cuba, and Myanmar.
If you reside in any of the abovementioned countries, you’ll get an error message that says ‘’Spotify isn’t currently available in your country’’ whenever you try to access it. So, if you use an IP address that belongs to any of these restricted countries, the system will automatically block your access.
Hence, the only way to sign up for an account without any restrictions is to make use of a VPN. A VPN hides your country’s IP address and changes it to another country whose IP address is not blocked.
Can I Sign up on the Spotify Mobile App?
Definitely yes. Mobile users can download the Spotify mobile app on their respective devices and sign up for a Spotify account.
The sign-up steps for Spotify on the web are the same as those for the app. The only minor difference is that when signing up on the web, all the required information is typically displayed on a single webpage, and users can fill out all the necessary fields at once.
In contrast, when signing up via the mobile app, the information is broken down into individual steps or fields, and after filling out each field, users must click a “Next” button to proceed to the next step.
